What does a digital marketing agency do?

A digital marketing agency provides a range of marketing services from tailored customer newsletters and email marketing to impactful social media posts and ads that drive traffic to your website.

What is digital marketing?

Digital marketing is broad and far reaching. It leverages various online channels such as search engines, social media, email, and websites to connect with current and potential customers. Unlike traditional marketing methods, which focus on one-way communication through print ads or TV commercials, digital marketing provides two-way interaction, allowing businesses to engage directly with their audience.

At its core, digital marketing is about reaching the right audience through the right channels with the right message.

Why is digital marketing important?

The importance of digital marketing lies in its ability to reach consumers where they spend most of their time—online. In today’s world of smartphones, social media, and e-commerce, consumer behaviour has shifted. Today’s buyers are more informed, they actively seek information before making a purchase, and they often trust online reviews and recommendations more than traditional ads. Digital marketing offers brands the chance to engage with these consumers on their own terms.

Moreover, working with a digital marketing agency can prove incredibly cost effective. Smaller businesses that may not have the budget for large-scale traditional advertising campaigns can leverage digital marketing to compete with larger competitors, thanks to targeted ads and organic social media growth.

What are the key components of digital marketing?

Digital marketing is an umbrella term that covers a wide range of tactics. As a digital marketing agency, here are some of what we believe to be the key components of a successful digital marketing campaign:

1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO is the process of optimising your website to rank higher on search engine result pages (SERPs) like Google. By improving the visibility of your site, SEO helps attract more traffic from users searching for relevant keywords related to your products or services.
SEO is divided into on-page SEO (optimising elements within your website like content, meta descriptions, and keywords) and off-page SEO (building backlinks from other reputable websites). Effective SEO strategies can help increase your website's visibility, drive traffic, and ultimately improve conversions.

2. Pay-Per-Click advertising (PPC)

PPC is a form of online advertising where advertisers pay each time a user clicks on one of their ads. This strategy allows businesses to target specific keywords and reach a highly relevant audience. Google Ads is the most popular PPC platform, allowing businesses to bid on keywords and appear at the top of search results.

PPC advertising offers instant visibility and results, unlike SEO, which is a long-term strategy. However, PPC requires continuous budget allocation, and its effectiveness depends on careful ad management and keyword research.

If you would like to explore PPC and the potential it can deliver for your business, we work with some trusted partners who are true experts in their field. We’d be happy to make an introduction or to manage this process for you, alongside any SEO copywriting services, which we might be delivering for you.

3. Social media marketing

Social media marketing involves using platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and TikTok to promote products, services, or content. Social media has become a vital part of digital marketing due to its ability to facilitate direct engagement with consumers.

Brands use social media not only for paid advertisements but also to build relationships with their audience through organic content. Engaging posts, videos, stories, and influencer collaborations all contribute to building brand awareness and fostering trust with customers.

4. Content marketing

Content marketing is the creation and distribution of valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience. Unlike direct advertising, content marketing aims to provide information and education that solves a problem for the audience, creating trust and establishing the business as an authority in its field.

Content marketing takes many forms, including blog posts, articles, videos, infographics and whitepapers. The goal is to engage the audience by offering them helpful, informative, or entertaining content, which can lead to increased brand loyalty and conversions.

5. Email marketing

Email marketing is one of the most effective forms of direct digital marketing. It involves sending tailored content, promotions, or updates directly to a user’s inbox. It’s a highly personalised approach that allows businesses to nurture leads, engage customers, and keep their audience informed.

While General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regulates how personal data is processed and protects the privacy of individuals, there are still lots of opportunities to engage with new and potential customers – as long as they have opted in to receive communications.

6. Analytics and data-driven marketing

A key advantage of digital marketing over traditional methods is the ability to track and measure results with precision. Tools like Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, and email marketing platforms offer comprehensive data on user behaviour, conversion rates, and engagement.

Through Google Analytics you can ascertain what has driven traffic to your website – what campaigns have been successful and resonated with your audience, and once on your site, what pages are these visitors finding most useful and/or engaging. This is powerful stuff and can be used to continually hone and improve your campaign and your website content.

So, what next?

The growth of the digital world has made marketing not just about selling a product but also about creating a customer experience. Today’s consumers want more than just advertisements—they expect a seamless journey from discovering a product to making a purchase and even after-sales support. Digital marketing plays a vital role in facilitating this journey by allowing businesses to engage with customers at multiple touchpoints, often in real-time.

This not only enhances the customer experience but also helps convert potential leads more efficiently.

Digital marketing also means that small and medium-sized businesses can compete more effectively with larger brands. With targeted campaigns, even small businesses can reach a broader audience at a fraction of the cost of traditional advertising.

Digital marketing has become a critical aspect of modern business. It offers unparalleled opportunities for businesses to engage with their audience, build brand awareness, and drive sales. By leveraging a mix of strategies—SEO, PPC, social media, content marketing, email marketing, and more—businesses can create a comprehensive digital marketing plan that delivers tangible results.

Personally, I am passionate about working with small and medium-sized businesses because this is where I believe you can have the biggest impact – and the most fun!

So, what are the benefits of using a copywriting agency?

In a digital world where content reigns supreme, the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively can be the difference between your business thriving or simply surviving. Whether it's a website, email campaign, social media post, or blog article, well-written copy can have a significant, and a direct impact. While many small businesses may have started off trying to manage content in-house, there can be lots of benefits to appointing a copywriting agency and drawing on their specific expertise.

A copywriting agency, such as HCC, can offer a wide range of services that can help you to improve brand visibility, enhance customer engagement, and ultimately drive new business. Here are a few of the advantages, we believe as a copyright agency, we can deliver for our clients:

1. Experts in persuasion and communication

Professional copywriters are trained to write in a way that resonates with your target audience and drives them to take action. Unlike casual writing or even basic business communication, effective copywriting is about persuasion. As a copywriting agency, we know how to craft messages that speak directly to your audience, addressing their needs, and making them more likely to engage with your brand.
Whether you need website copy that converts visitors into customers or compelling email campaigns that nurture leads, as skilled copywriters, we can turn words into a powerful tool for your business.

2. Here to saves you time and boost efficiency

Writing high-quality, impactful content can take time. From brainstorming topics to researching, drafting, editing, and proofreading, creating content is a time-consuming process that many businesses underestimate. By hiring a copywriting agency, you free up your time, enabling you to focus on other important aspects of your business.

As professional copywriters, we are adept at efficient content creation. What might take an untrained writer hours or even days to complete can often be accomplished much faster by a professional, without sacrificing quality. This not only saves time but also boosts overall productivity, allowing your business to maintain a consistent content output without overwhelming yourself or your in-house team.

3. Consistency in brand voice and messaging

Maintaining a consistent brand voice across all platforms is essential for building a recognisable and trustworthy brand. A professional copywriter helps ensure that every piece of content—from website pages to social media posts—reflects your brand’s unique personality and values.

Inconsistent messaging can confuse your audience and dilute your brand identity. As copywriters, we work to understand your brand’s tone of voice, and audience, and ensure these elements are consistently applied across all communications. This consistency builds brand recognition and trust over time, which are critical for developing lasting relationships with customers.

4. SEO optimisation and improved online visibility

One of the most significant advantages of hiring a professional copywriter, especially in the digital age, is our knowledge of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). A well-crafted piece of content is valuable, but if it doesn’t rank on search engines like Google, its reach will be limited.

As a copywriting agency we are well-versed in SEO best practices, including keyword research, meta titles/descriptions, and on-page SEO elements that help your content rank higher in search engine results. By incorporating these techniques, we can significantly improve your website’s visibility, driving more organic traffic and increasing your chances of attracting potential customers.
However, SEO is about more than just cramming keywords into an article. It’s about finding the right balance between readability and optimisation. As copywriters, we know how to craft engaging, valuable content for readers, while also ensuring it is optimised for search engines. This approach helps your content reach a broader audience without compromising the user experience.

5. Tailored content for your audience

One of the key aspects of effective copywriting is understanding the audience you’re writing for. What motivates them? What are the challenges they are facing? What kind of language and tone will resonate with them?

As a copywriting agency, we take the time to research and understand your target audience, ensuring that the content is tailored to their specific needs and preferences. This tailored approach leads to better engagement, as your audience will feel that the content speaks directly to them, increasing the likelihood of conversion.

For example, content that works for a B2B (business-to-business) audience will be very different from content aimed at a B2C (business-to-consumer) audience. At HCC, we understand these nuances and know how to adjust the tone, style, and messaging accordingly.

6. Boosts conversion rates and sales

The ultimate goal of most marketing and advertising efforts is to convert leads into paying customers. As a copywriting agency, we specialise in creating content that is not only engaging but also designed to encourage the desired action, whether that’s making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter, or contacting your business.

With our expertise in crafting compelling calls-to-action (CTAs) and persuasive language, we can boost your conversion rates, leading to increased sales and revenue. Whether you're launching a new product, running an advertising campaign, or revamping your website, we can help turn interest into action.

7. Fresh perspective and creativity

When you're deeply involved in your business, it’s easy to develop tunnel vision. We can bring a fresh perspective to your content. We are not bogged down by the day-to-day operations of your business and can offer new insights into how your brand is perceived from the outside.

Additionally, as a copywriting agency, we are creative professionals who can think outside the box. We know how to present your message in a way that stands out from the competition, using creative angles, attention-grabbing headlines, and unique storytelling techniques to capture your audience's attention.

8. High quality, error-free content

While it may seem like an obvious benefit, the importance of error-free content cannot be overstated. Poorly written content with spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, or awkward phrasing can damage your brand’s credibility. As professional copywriters we aim to ensure that every piece of content you publish is polished, well-structured, and free from errors.

9. Adaptability across multiple formats

Today’s businesses need content that spans various formats, from long-form blog posts and whitepapers to short, snappy social media updates or product descriptions. As a professional copywriting agency, we are highly adaptable and skilled at writing across these different formats.

This adaptability is crucial in today’s fast-paced digital world, where businesses must produce a diverse range of content to engage their audience. Whether it’s a detailed case study or a short Instagram post or story, as professional copywriters, we can adjust our style to suit the medium and the message.

10. Long-term cost savings

While hiring a copywriting agency may seem like an additional expense, it often leads to long-term savings. Poorly written content that fails to engage your audience or drive conversions can cost you more in lost sales and missed opportunities. In contrast, high-quality content that performs well can generate long-term value for your business by attracting and retaining customers.

Moreover, many businesses find that investing in professional copywriting services is more cost-effective than training in-house staff or relying on less experienced writers. By hiring a copywriting agency, you get expertise and results without the overhead of managing an in-house team.

So, what next?

The benefits of using a copywriting agency extend far beyond just polished text. From saving time and improving efficiency to boosting SEO and increasing conversions, a skilled copywriter can have a profound impact on your business's success. By investing in professional copywriting services, you can ensure that your brand’s messaging is consistent, engaging, and designed to achieve your business goals.

Whether you are looking for SEO copywriting services, digital marketing support, you need a customer newsletter drafting, or award entry writing, we can provide a range of services. We are always very happy to have an initial, no obligation chat to talk through your needs and what we offer and to see where we might be able to work together.

An introduction to Hendry Content & Comms

Hi! I'm a Maidenhead Copywriter

Seeing as this is the first ever blog post on the website, it seems only right to introduce myself and to share a bit more about me, and what Hendry Content & Comms is all about!

Life in Maidenhead

My name is Claire Laycock. Primarily I am a Maidenhead copywriter. I have lived in the town for the last 12 years, with my husband and our two children – aged eight and ten. The children go to a local school and having grown up in a nearby village myself, I know the area well.

Like many of my neighbours, family and local friends, I am eagerly awaiting the much talked about town centre regeneration – which seems to have been a topic of conversation since we moved back here over a decade ago! As a family, we are already enjoying the rejuvenation of areas such as the Waterside Quarter and we are looking forward to more to come...

My clients

While the majority of my clients are local (ish), I work with businesses all over the country – across a variety of sectors from property to restaurants and recruitment. After spending much of my early career in public relations, based agency side, I took the big step in 2011 to start out on my own, and I haven’t looked back!

Working with small businesses in Maidenhead

Keen to work direct with clients and to work with smaller businesses, where I feel I can have a real impact, I have now been up and running for 13 years. While PR is my background, and where my initial client base originated from, over recent years the majority of my client work has been focused on copywriting and providing marketing services for small businesses, which I love!

Copywriting and marketing services

For existing clients I provide a range of services. I draft web copy, schedule and deliver blog posts, help businesses with their SEO, and Google Business Profiles, write corporate and development brochures, manage social media channels and create content, I identify potential award entries and I draft and submit these for clients and I compile a variety of customer facing newsletters. No day is the same, no day is ever boring!

Providing marketing services for small businesses is hugely rewarding.

Skills and attributes

I am thorough, organised, detailed, creative and articulate and I am 100% reliable! If there is a deadline to meet, then you can have total confidence that I will deliver. I also believe that it’s important to enjoy your work and to have fun. I like to build trusted and long lasting relationships with those who I work with. I will always give you my best advice, and I will always do all I can to help you to meet and exceed your goals.

Local business connections

If you require a service that I don’t offer, or I don’t believe is within my true area of expertise, then I am happy to introduce you to someone more suitable from my network of contacts. Working with other local freelancers and small business, I have got to know some great people, with an extensive array of skills.

Get in touch

If your website needs an overhaul and /or you want to start a blog or a latest news page to drive more traffic to your website, then get in touch!

I thoroughly enjoy the challenge of getting to know a business and understanding what it is, that sets you apart. This knowledge then enables me to make a series of recommendations for your website – from updating the copy and imagery to tweaking headings so that your website creeps up the Google search rankings.

By drawing on your expert knowledge, researching topical trends and what your customers are searching for (and by assessing what is driving web traffic for your best performing competitors!) I can also deliver a schedule of SEO friendly and compelling blog posts. Combined with company news, updates and lifestyle articles, these can really help to get more people visiting your website – and encourage more people to get in touch.

This type of content can also be used to feed customer newsletters and social media posts, contributing to the broader marketing machine and helping to get everything working together!

As a Maidenhead copywriter, I know the area well and I would welcome the opportunity to work with some more local businesses.

If you have been meaning to invest some more time in your company’s marketing and/or you’ve got a few ideas that you just need a bit of support with, get in touch. Whether you want to commit to a monthly schedule of activity, or you just want some ad hoc support, I’d love to help!
